Description
  • From the mill walk along the public footpath around the south of Skidby village, past Gallows Hill and the cemetery.
  • Turn right at the road and follow it around the corner to a path leading northwards to the deserted village of Risby.
  • Left, along the lane is another path to take you to Risby Park , but do not continue.
  • Instead turn right and follow the field path to the Bentley road, and walk southwards along the road and then a fieldpath alongside Fishpond Wood.
  • Cross the road and take the fieldpaths leading southwards back to Skidby.

Features of Interest
Risby Park belonged to the Risby family until 1401 when it passed by marriage into the Ellerker family. The father and his three sons were knighted on the field of battle for their gallant behaviour at Flodden Field. 
 
The earthworks of the medieval village of Risby can be seen in the field to the north of the minor road.

This route:- 
- Is mainly flat. 
 
- Contains a mixture of gates and stiles. 
 
- May involve walking through livestock, or growing crops in some fields.
Additional Information
The walk may be shortened to 4 miles by taking the shortcut along Dunflat Road, the lane on the south side of Fishpond Wood.
